(UPDATE: Added the beginnings of an interior)
I decided to enter a contest to design a spaceship for a video game. I never expected to win, but I thought it would be a good motivating exercise. I've since learned that the contest is really aimed at teams, so now I think I'm way out of my league on this one. Not to mention also that my "space" ship in the end really kind of turned out to look more like something you'd see in atmosphere.
I had big plans for interior modelling, including "interchangeable" modules for cargo, passenger, and luxry "yacht" but I've run out of time and skill. (I made the mistake of trying to model the interior as part of the exterior thinking it would make my cutaway views easier to accomplish.
I also had plans to create an "exploded" view so you'd see every detail of the ship down to the motor, frame, and every last rivet (well, I wasn't really going to get that detailed, but you get the idea).
(UPDATE: Same angle, upsampled and cleaned up a bit - sticking with blue also)
Overall, I'm pretty happy with how it's coming along, but I don't think I'll bother entering it in the contest. Still, I'm glad I made the effort. It's tough getting back into this after being away from it for more or less than a year. Crazy how much you forget when you're not doing it every day!
(Apologies for the Epic Lens Flares™ - I had alpha overload on my compositor so I wound up with really overpowered effects.)
